A New School Year for Next Generation Scholars!
At Next Generation Scholars, we are busily back to school, welcoming a new cohort of eager and dedicated first-generation students. While our classrooms may feel and look a bit different, our computer screens can barely contain the enthusiasm and laughter that a new school year brings. From our 6th graders to our faculty, it's clear that this is going to be a fun, thought-provoking, and productive year.
In addition to fueling minds and imaginations, NGS offers a weekly pop-up food bank, providing fresh and nutritious food to its families. Pictured above, Jeff Escabar, Executive Director, Jordan Conway, Social Services Associate, and Angel Barrios, NGS Senior Scholar, distribute boxes of healthy ingredients to families. This service continues to provide vital relief to our families, with over 80% of them under or unemployed due to the shelter-in-place mandates necessitated due to COVID-19.
Our students will be the first in their family to graduate college, and our programs are a family affair. Year-round academic enrichment, full-time summer programming, social services, and college counseling all help to ensure equitable access to higher education for these bright, hard-working scholars. NGS also supports them in finding their place and role within the community, an ever-important job as they grapple to cope with days marked by a pandemic and heightened social injustice.
Our 14-year track record suggests we're on the right path, and your support is what makes the data a reality:
100% of NGS graduates enroll in a four-year college.
95% of our Scholars graduate college within 5 years.
Summer Academy 2020, our largest cohort ever with 111 students.
